Biopsy with Confidence: Hands-On Training in Oral Lesion Management
Master biopsy techniques, avoid common mistakes, and improve diagnostic accuracy in everyday practice
Course description: Early detection of oral cancer and oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) depends on recognizing when a lesion warrants further investigation—and having the confidence to act. This course provides a practical, case-based approach to evaluating oral lesions and determining when biopsy is indicated. Participants will review key clinical features of high-risk lesions, common diagnostic pitfalls, and real-world decision-making strategies.
A step-by-step biopsy demonstration video will guide attendees through proper technique, including site selection, instrumentation, and specimen handling to ensure diagnostic accuracy. Emphasis is placed on avoiding common mistakes and integrating biopsy procedures into everyday clinical practice. By the end of this course, clinicians will feel more confident in their ability to identify concerning lesions, perform biopsies appropriately, and contribute to earlier diagnosis and improved patient outcomes.
Course Objectives:
Identify clinical features of oral cancer and oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) that warrant biopsy during routine patient evaluations.
Demonstrate proper biopsy technique, including site selection, incision design, instrumentation, and specimen handling to ensure diagnostic accuracy.
Apply best practices for selecting biopsy type (incisional vs excisional) and avoiding common procedural errors that can compromise diagnosis.
